Country clubs and garden parties. The last thing Cassandra wants is to spend the summer before her senior year marooned in a snooty Massachusetts shore town. Cass craves drama and adventure, which is hard when she just feels stuck.
But when a dreamy stranger shows up on her family's private beach, claiming that it is his property-and that the year is 1925-Cass is swept into a mystery a hundred years in the making. As she searches for answers in the present, Cass discovers a truth that thrusts Lawrence's life into jeopardy. It won't matter which century he is from if he won't live to see tomorrow.
Desperate to save the boy who's come to mean everything to her, Cassandra must find a way to change history...or risk losing Lawrence forever.
"Until We Meet Again is tragically beautiful with twists you won't see coming."-Martina Boone, author of Compulsion and the Heirs of Watson Island trilogy
"A beach house, a mystery, and time-travel love make Until We Meet Again a romantic, engaging read."-Deb Caletti, National Book Award Finalist for Honey, Baby, Sweetheart.
My Review:
Read this book. Period. Until We Meet Again is a YA contemporary with a touch of fantasy and a dash of Nicholas Sparks' romance.
Opening Line:
Date: July 8.
Days at my mom and stepdad's new summer home: 22
Plot:
The premise of Until We Meet Again was highly fascinating. Modern girl from 2015 comes across a beach that allows her to fall madly in love with a gentleman from 1925. A love 100 years apart. Are they meant to be? Will they find a way to be together in the same year? Or is there a dark cloud hanging over their romance . . . ?
The pacing was just right. Not once did I feel bogged down by the movement of the story. The timing of the events, the growth of the story and its characters felt natural. As for the writing, not everyone writes as utterly fantastic as Lauren Destefano -- not even Stephenie Meyer, and she my #1 favorite author -- but Collins' writing is meaty, precise and real. Her story felt alive. I was emotionally investing in Until We Meet Again and the welfare of its characters.
Character Breakdown:
Cass Gordon - There is not much I can say about Cass' character ... or rather, want to say. I will let you get to know her on your own.
Cass' Mom - Where do I even start with Cassandra's mother . . .? Boy, did she get on my nerves. I have to say, I have not been this annoyed with a character's parent(s) since the parents in Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver. I mean, this woman would not let up! She would ground Cass for the dumbest crap, never wanted to hear a word or anything. Come on, the woman got mad because her daughter spent hours in the library, tried to force her daughter to be with a guy she did not want to be with, and pissed because she found out Cass spent time with another guy, for crying out loud. Every time there was a scene with her in it, I cringed through.

I want her back. It's more than I can bear. I'm exhausted from the desperate loneliness of waiting here, staring at the bushes, yearning for her to come.
And then, at long last, I hear the rustle of the branches. My heart leaps into my throat. I spring to my feet.
But it isn't Cassandra. - page 259

I try to keep the swell of tears from spilling over, but it's no use. Setting my hand over his, I feel the ring between our palms. It cuts into me deeper than any blade ever could.

Character Breakdown:
Cass Gordon - There is not much I can say about Cass' character ... or rather, want to say. I will let you get to know her on your own.
Lawrence Gordon - Dashing ... Dreamy ... Charming ... Artistic ... Need I say more?
"In my mind, you have come to embody those dreams," he says softly. "A girl from another time. Who only exists on one windswept beach. You're a poem, Cassandra. You're my poem."
He takes me my hand and presses it to his chest. My heart is pounding so hard I can barely breathe. - page 144

"Cass," Mom says, disapproval thick in her voice.
"There's some stuff I need to take care of. It's really important."
Brandon purses his lips. "I could go. I mean, if that's what you really--"
"That would be great."
"I don't think so," Mom says. She steps out of Brandon's line of sight and gives me a stern, why-are-you-being-so-rude look. "Brandon's been waiting almost an hour for you. Whatever you have to do can wait until tomorrow."
"It actually can't."
"It can and it will." Now I'm getting the behave-or-you're-grounded look. - page 184
Renee Collins grew up on a beach in Hawaii. Sadly, she never met anyone from the past on those shores, but she did go on to get a degree in History, which is almost the same. She currently lives in Colorado with her family. Visit her at reneecollinsauthor.com.
