The Story:

Kiera Cass’s #1 New York Times bestseller The Elite is a must-read for fans of dystopian fiction, fairy tales, and reality TV. This second book in the bestselling Selection series will enchant teens who love Divergent and The Bachelor. The paperback also includes a sneak peek at The One—the thrilling third novel in the Selection series!
In America Singer’s world, a bride is chosen for the prince through an elaborate, televised competition. In The Elite, America is one of only six girls left in the running. But is it Prince Maxon—and life as the queen—that she wants? Or is it Aspen, her first love?
The Elite delivers the adventure, glamour, political intrigue, and romance that readers of The Selection expect, and continues the love triangle that captivated them.

My Review

Tag Line:

35 girls came to the palace. Only 6 remain.

Opening Line:

The Angeles air was quiet, and for a while I lay still, listening to sound of Maxon's breathing.

Plot:

The premise of
The Elite
premise. In the sequel to The Selection, readers once again dive 300 years into the future in a far away land called
IllĂ©a -- the United States with a prickly thong up her butt -- where society is divided into a strict caste system. In this land, there is a girl, America Singer, who has been selected to compete for the crowned Prince's, Maxon, hand in marriage . . . but there are a few snags to this fairy tale.

The pacing was just right. I felt the angst, the tension ... I felt a part of the story. I was as part of the competition for Maxon as America. In
The Elite, America finally admits to herself the feelings she harbors for Maxon and the truth about her and Aspen's relationship. And I was just as confused as America in trying to decided who she belonged with. Maxon or Aspen?

I weighed Maxon and Aspen in my heart over and over, and neither of them ever had a true edge. Except, maybe, when I was alone with one of them.

Cass' writing is not glorious but still, she knows how to invoke a fairy tale. The premise was great, the emotional turmoil and the love triangle was tastefully written. All in all, I definitely recommend The Elite to anyone who enjoys light, cute retellings of fairy tales.
